The placed mare MARITIME BREEZE, a half-sister to graded stakes winner Passion for Action and in foal to top Ontario stallion Silent Name (Jpn) topped the 2023 CTHS Ontario Mixed Sale at the Woodbine sale pavilion on October 18.
Rob Marzilli paid $27,000 for the seven-year-old daughter of More Than Ready, who was sold by Richard Hogan as agent.
A total of 48 broodmares, yearlings, weanling and horses of racing age sold for $252,400 for an average of $5,258, down from the 2022 sale average of $9,396. The median price was $3,000, down from $6,250 a year ago.
The second highest price of the sale was the $20,000 paid by R. Tanel as agent for Jim Bryant for the stakes-winning mare Innocent Love, a daughter of Grand Slam sold in foal to Mohaymen.
Maritime Breeze’s weanling filly by Town Prize brought a bid of $19,000 from T H Bloodstock and the mare Midnight Strider, by Town Prize and in foal to Point of Entry, was purchased by John Carey, agent from Hailey Stephenson, agent for $14,000.
