CAITLINHERGRTNESS, Canada’s Champion Three-Year-Old Filly of 2024 and in line to win the Sovereign Award for 2025’s Champion Older Mare/Main Track, ended her career on a high note in Florence,. Kentucky.
Hammered down to 3-to-5 for the $250,000 My Charmer Stakes at Turfway Park on Sunday, Caitlinhergrtness enjoyed a perfect trip under Flavien Prat and went on to a handy 1 1/2 length victory in the one-mile Tapeta event in 1:36.74. With the winner’s share of $120,280, Caitlinhergrtness became a millionaire with new earnings of $1,071,569 from six wins in 17 starts.
The My Charmer, part of the Synthetic Championships, four stakes races at Turfway, was expected to be the final race for Caitlinhergrtness, who is owned by WinStar Farm, LLC in Kentucky and trained by 2024 Outstanding Trainer Kevin Attard.
Breaking from the inside in the field of eight fillies and mares, Prat had Caitlinhergrtness forwardly positioned into the first turn where longshot Nanabush (ARG) took command through an opening quarter-mile in a composed :24.36. As the field entered the backstretch, Caitlinhergrtness was in third at the rail, to the inside of She’s Lookin Lucky, as the duo traveled a length behind Nanabush. Entering the far turn, 63-1 longshot Trial, with Irving Moncada in the saddle, loomed into contention while in the three path, which forced Prat to go four-wide at the top of the lane. Inside the final eighth mile, Trial briefly took the lead, but Caitlinhergrtness found her best stride and powered clear for a 1 ½-length victory.
Woodbine stakes winner Literate, who closed late up the rail, finished a neck behind Trial in third. She was followed by She’s Lookin Lucky, Next Up, Nanabush, Vina Arana (IRE), and Queens Command (IRE). Caitlinhergrtness paid $3.10 for the win. Trial returned $25.90 to place while Literate, under Irad Ortiz Jr., paid $3.46 to show.
Caitlinhergrtness won the King’s Plate in 2024 over the boys and this year won the Ontario Matron and Belle Mahone Stakes, both Graded 3 races. The daughter of Omaha Beach – Bellatrix by Giant’s Causeway was bred in Ontario by Jesse Korona. Korona bought the unraced Belatrix for $40,000 carrying Caitlinhergrtness and sold her in 2023 in foal to Greatest Honour for $11,000.
The My Charmer is part of the Claiborne Farm “Make Your Mare” series where the top three finishers will receive stallion credits to the famed farm on a $10,000-$5,000-$2,500 scale.
