An Ontario-bred filly by Frosted, bred by David Anderson’s Anderson Farms, sold for $425,000 on the final session of the 2021 Ocala Breeders’ Sales, April 22. Joe Hardoon, Agent, purchased hip No. 1118 who breezed an eighth in 9 4/5 at last Saturday’s Under Tack session. The grey/roan filly, consigned by Harris Training Centre, agent, is from the mare Miss Emilia by War Front.
The filly was bought for $95,000 at last fall’s Fasig-Tipton October yearling sale from the Anderson consignment.
For the entire sale, 723 horses sold for a Spring Sale record total of $73,907,900 compared with 634 horses bringing $57,715,000 in 2020. The average price was $102,224, compared with $91,033 a year ago. The median was $50,000, identical to last year’s $50,000. The buyback percentage was 13.2%; it was 18.5% last year.
The overall sale topper was Hip No. 381, a son of Quality Road consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent, sold to Speedway Stables, LLC, for $1,500,000 to top the Wednesday session. The bay colt, who breezed an eighth in :10 flat at Tuesday’s Under Tack session, is a half-brother to stakes-placed Coffee Crush out of graded stakes winner Wasted Tears, by Najran.
On the final session on Friday, hip No. 1039, a son of Into Mischief consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent, went to Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners & Whitehorse Stables for $875,000 The bay colt, who breezed an eighth in :10 flat at Saturday’s Under Tack session, is a full brother to graded stakes placed stakes winning OBS graduate Into Mystic, is out of Loveofalifetime, by Medaglia d’Oro, a half sister to graded stakes winner Savorthetime.
Canadian buyers:
CONRAD Farms paid $235,000 for a Dialed In filly out of Negotiable by Hat Trick (Jpn) who worked one furlong in 9 4/5. The couple also bought a Cupid filly – Comanche Princess for $80,000 as a private sale on the next-to-last session.
From Ontario, SHIRLEY CAMILLERI of Malta Manors continued the buying spree for herself and husband Anthony, picking up an Ontario-bred colt by Nyquist – Prodicious Facts, who worked one furlong in 10 2/5, for $52,000. Camilleri also paid $23,000 for a filly by Midnight Storm out of Peaceloveandjoy who worked one furlong in 10 3/5.
John Burness’ COLEBROOK FARMS bought a Union Rags – Rumor colt who worked in 11 seconds for one furlong for $18,000.
Manitoba owner/trainer SHELLEY BROWN bought a colt by He Be Fire N Ice – Ridge Kitten for $10,000 and the colt worked one furlong in 10 4/5. On the second-to-last session she paid $12,000 for a Mastery filly and $22,000 for a California Chrome filly.
Alberta horseman CURTIS LANDRY bought a Klimt – Spring Dragon colt for $40,000.
