ROBERT MARZILLI is hoping his Ontario-bred Speightstown colt from multiple graded stakes winner Code Warrior (Society’s Chairman) is a big ticket yearling Monday night at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga yearling sale. It is the 100th Saratoga sale.
Marzilli has expanded his racing and breeding program in the years since his filly CAREN was named Canadian Horse of the Year in 2016.
He purchased Code Warrior as a broodmare prospect in 2017 for $190,000 and this Speightstown colt is her first foal. Marzilli offered the colt at auction as a weanling but bought him back for $175,000. The colt is hip no. 64 in the first session of the two-evening sale.
Fasig-Tipton has catalogued 210 selected yearlings for the 100th Saratoga Sale, to be held on Monday and Tuesday, August 9 and 10, in Saratoga Springs, New York. Sessions will begin each evening at 6:30 pm in the Humphrey S. Finney Sales Pavilion.

Saratoga is the first major North American yearling sale to reach the milestone of 100 renewals. The sale returns this year after being canceled in 2020 due to Covid-19, the first time the sale had not been held since World War II.
Canadian-bred offerings in the sale are offered by Cara Bloodstock for Jay and Christine Hayden, Sam-Son Farm and Marzilli, Ontario consignor, owner, breeder Sue Foreman sells her first Saratoga yearling, a Kentucky-bred by Medaglia d’Oro for BC’s Deb Holmes, and there is a feature story on her here.
