David Anderson’s Anderson Farms, as agent, sold a Medaglia d’Oro Ontario-bred filly for $350,000 and Howard Walton’s Norseman Racing sold a pair of Ontario-breds, including one by Ontario sire Signature Red, for a total of $265,000 at the recently completed Fasig-Tipton Kentucky October yearling sale.

Dozens of Canadian-bred yearlings went through the sale and many were purchased by Canadians.

Anderson sold a quartet of yearlings with the Medaglia d’oro daughter of the mare Elusive Luci topping his crew. A half-sister to Grade 2 stakes winner Big Runneur, the filly was bought by D.J. Stable, who races most of its horses at Woodbine with trainer Mark Casse.

Walton, who bought back all, or most of his yearling offerings at the CTHS Ontario yearling and mixed sales, sold a pair of Ontario-breds at the Kentucky sale. A colt by his Ontario stallion SIGNATURE RED, from the mare Gemini, brought a bid of $105,000 from Silverton Hill.

Walton also sold a Munnings filly for $150,000 from the mare Red Explosive to Mike Ryan, agent. Shawhan Place, LLC sold Walton’s yearlings.

APRICOT VALLEY THOROUGHBREDS, owned by Colin and Anne Davis, offered its first yearling for a Kentucky sale, a Global Campaign colt from the mare Johannson, which was bought for $60,000 by Ontario owner Jim Bruce of La Huerta Stable. The colt was sold through Bernard McCormack’s Cara Bloodstock Agency.

Jay and Christine Hayden’s SAINTSBURY FARM, selling through Cara Bloodstock, sold two more nice yearlings by hot American stallion Good Magic, who has done well for them in 2023. At the sale, the Haydens sold two Ontario-breds for $140,000, a filly out of Designer Legs, and for $125,000, a colt from Mabsota.

There were many Canadian buyers of the Canadian-bred yearlings.

Shirley Camilleri of Malta Manors bought a $50,000 colt by Higher Power and Mike DePaulo, agent bought a Munnings colt, also for $50,000.

Catherine Day Phillips, agent paid $120,000 for a Classic Empire filly from the mare Lunch Hour, bred by Conrad Farms. Day Phillips also signed the ticket for a Bolt d’Oro – Garavogue Colleen grey colt on behalf of Braconcrest for $75,000. The colt, a half-brother to Lac Macaza, was bred by Frank Mermenstein and Elliot Kohn.

Michael Lay purchased a Frosted colt for $45,000, Ted Holder picked up a pair of yearlings including a More Than Ready colt and half-brother to multiple stakes winners Halo Again and Inflexibility from Anderson Farms for $15,000.

X-Men Racing bought a Flameaway filly from Susan Y. Foreman for $47,000 and Canuck Racing Club 2 bought a $30,000 Frac Daddy Ontario-bred colt and a $2,000 Danish Dynaformer colt. Frank Huarte purchased three yearlings including a $5,000 filly by Flatter.
