The Keeneland September Yearling Sale begins Monday, September 13 for an 11-day run offering 4,032 yearlings catalogued in five books.
Canadians have just over 100 yearlings in the books (before scratches) including three foaled in British Columbia.
In addition to a number of Canadian breeders and consignors there will be some locals heading to the sale to make purchases for next year’s stable of 2-year-olds.
David Anderson sells the first Canadian/Ontario-bred on opening day of the sale, a colt by Medaglia D’Oro from Orchard Beach and this colt is a full brother to a filly, Sahlabiya, who sold last year for $1.6 million for Anderson. Sahlabiya has been working all summer at Saratoga. Orchard Beach is the dam of Group 3 winner Sergei Prokofiev.
Anderson has a number of offerings through the first four sessions.
Also selling in the first two books (four sessions) are Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency, as agent and its Ontario bred filly, hip no. 253 has an eye-popping pedigree being by Triple Crown winner Justify and out of a full sister to Triple Crown winner American Pharoah.
British Columbia-based Trinity West Stable offers a 2020 filly by Ghostzapper from its champion Dancing Allstar, whose remarkable daughter SUMMER SUNDAY won another stakes race at Woodbine this past weekend. Summer Sunday (Silent Name (Jpn)) won the Zadracarta Stakes at five furlongs on the turf and the Sovereign Award-winning mare has earnings of over $877,000.
Other sellers include Christina and Jay Hayden, Cara Bloodstock, Mitchell Kursner, Robert Marzilli, Shannondoe Farm, Josham Farms among others.
