She Makes a Point was worth the wait.
The 4-year-old filly, owned by Kingfield Racing Stable and All My Hart Stable, made her career debut at Tampa Bay Downs on March 20 and was ultra impressive in the one mile grass race. Trained and co-owned by Kingfield’s Catherine Day Phillips, She Makes a Point (Point of Entry – She’s Ordained, by Ministers Wild Cat) was eager early in the race but was taken off the pace. The filly came wide and from seventh place and charged clear to win by 2 1/4 lengths in a sharp 1:36.36. Ridden by Isaac Castillo, She Makes a Point was 27-to-1.
Day Phillips purchased the filly as a yearling at the 2019 CTHS Ontario Canadian Premier Yearling Sale for $70,000 from breeders Keith and Rachel McClelland. The filly was working last spring at Woodbine before she received some time off before resuming training at Payson Park training centre in Stuart, Florida in December. The dark bay was perfectly prepared by Day Phillips for the professional victory.
*Martin Drexler and owner Bruno Schickedanz celebrated two winners at Gulfstream Park last week. Lucky Girasol and Katiesdreamgirl were winners for the team and both were claimed. Drexler has nine wins in his first year of racing horses in Florida. Trainers Steven Chircop and Bill Tharrenos have six winners in 2022.
*Trainer Mark Casse told the Canadian Press on March 19 that GOD OF LOVE, the probable Champion Two-Year-Old Colt in Canada when the Sovereign Awards are announced on April 14, is set for the Jack Ruby Steaks at Turfway Park in Kentucky on April 2. The $600,000 race is run on the Tapeta surface at Turfway and offers 100 Kentucky Derby points to the winner. Casse said that while God of Love is a Kentucky Derby possibility should he run well at Turfway, the Cupid colt is his number one Queen’s Plate prospect. The 163rd Plate is on Aug. 21.
*Champion MIGHTY HEART, the 2020 Queen’s Plate winner and contender for Champion Older Horse of 2021, had his second recorded workout at Palm Meadows on March 19. The 5-year-old horse owned by Larry Cordes went four furlongs under Justin Stein in 51.25. An early goal for Mighty Heart, trained by Josie Carroll, is the Ben Ali Stakes at Keeneland on April 23.
