Thornbury, ON – In keeping with its mission to become one of the pre-eminent horse parks in Canada and the U.S., Cedar Run is in the final few weeks of completing the equestrian and show jumping portion of the park, with three grand rings, two smaller show rings and warm up areas all to be ready for the park’s 2010 season.
In addition to finalizing all of the key elements for show jumping, Cedar Run’s cross country course is being expanded this year to include an additional 50 acre woodlot that will offer a backdrop of centuries old cedar and yellow birch trees. The cross country course expansion is being managed under the direction of Hugh Morshead, who has built similar courses around the world and literally wrote the book ‘Design and Build a Cross Country Course’.
As part of the park’s expansion plans for this season, additional projects include the construction of four new horse paddocks and 40 permanent stalls – both in support of the park’s new riding school.
“We have put in four years of hard work and although we’ve made steady progress, this is the year that Cedar Run is ready to shine as an impressive venue for riders and horse enthusiast alike,” observes Peter Lush, the president of Cedar Run and driving force behind the park.
“In addition to launching our riding school, we also have a very full schedule of events and competitions,” Lush commented. “We’re going to stage a rodeo this summer… so there’s really something for everyone, from people who love to ride, to members of the public content to come out to the park and enjoy not only the horses and the shows, but the beautiful setting. It really is spectacular during the summer and fall months with both the Niagara Escarpment and Georgian Bay in full view.”
Summer Event Highlights
Highlights of Cedar Run events this year include the OHTA Horse Trials June 12-13, a series of riding clinics conducted by David Wilding Davies (a past Canadian Olympic Equestrian Team member), Schooling Shows throughout the summer conducted by Jane Casselman, the Cedar Run Dodge Rodeo show www.cedarrundodgerodeo.com which takes place August 21-22 and the Cedar Run Riding School – which is being run over the course of the summer with riding instructor Sheri Lise Holly. “When you go down the list of the people involved in our programs and the experience they bring to the table, I think it speaks volumes about the depth of the team behind this park – all of which ties in with our long-term goal of making this a world-class facility that is truly unique to the area,” observes Lush.
About the Park
Now in its fourth year of development, Cedar Run is well on track to becoming Canada’s first world-class multi-disciplinary facility – a facility that caters to the needs and interests of a broad base of key stakeholders, from equestrian enthusiasts to the general public. In keeping with the development plans for this project, the Park will serve as the host site for a variety of equestrian events and competitions. It will include permanent and temporary stabling for up to 1,700 horses, serve as home to the Cedar Run Club – a private club for horse lovers, and have a residential component consisting of English and French Country inspired homes. In the coming years, it is anticipated the Park will create dozens of jobs and inject millions of dollars into the local economy.
