At Woodbine on Saturday, fans will see the return of a champion.
The 2025 Champion 2-Year-Old Filly, the undefeated, Grade 1 winning CORSIA VELOCE, makes her exciting return to the races in the $125,000 Fury Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at 7 furlongs. The race is the 9th on the afternoon with a post time of 5:15 p.m.
Corsia Veloce, by Practical Joke – Beth’s Bling by City Zip, is owned and was bred by Glen Sikura, owner of Hill ‘n’ Dale Farms in Nobleton and his longtime friend Mario Serrani. Trained by Josie Carroll, she won her career debut at 5 1/2 furlongs on Tapeta before moving to the grass where she won the Catch a Glimpse Stakes and the Grade 1 Natalma Stakes, a Win and You’re In race for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies.
Unfortunately, despite earning an all expenses paid trip to Del Mar and the Breeders’ Cup, Corsia Veloce had to go home and heal from a slight fracture. She had the injury tended to and then got back into shape in Kentucky. She meets five rivals in the Fury including Chiefswood Stables’ stakes winner Piper’s Gift (Yorkton).
“I’m nervous to see if she will return with the same form that she had as a 2-year-old,” said Sikura. ” I have nervous energy.”
Carroll is an ace at getting a horse ready to run after a long layoff; it is perhaps only on how much she likes Tapeta compared to the grass as she gets going in her sophomore campaign.
“We had a conservative plan to get her back to the races,” said Sikura. “We gave her lots of time to heal and then she went to WinStar in Kentucky and they did a great job with her. Hopefully she is at the top of her game.”
Fraser Aebly rides Corsia Veloce.
Piper’s Gift is a solid rival to meet off the layoff and Chiefswood has been on a roll in 2026. This is gal prefers the Tapeta it seems and she gave a New York stakes race on turf a shot in April but the turf was yielding and the pace was slow. Bossy Candy, Katie’s Grace, Pageant Queen and Mathematical complete the field.
The Fury is the only Canadian bred stakes race leading up to the Oaks at this point. The Oaks is scheduled for July 19.
