Canadian champion MILLIE GIRL (Hard Spun – Mendocino Beano by Smart Strike) was one of the top sellers at the Fasig-Tipton December Digital Sale this week at $450,000. The six-year-old, bred by Sean Fitzhenry, was the 2023 Champion Older Mare at the Sovereign Awards, and is a graded stakes winner of five races from 17 starts and over $450,000. Racing for Kingfield Racing, Braconcrest Stable, and Apricot Valley Thoroughbreds, Millie Girl was purchased by John Stewart’s Resolute Bloodstock as a racing or broodmare prospect.

Catherine Day Phillips trained Millie Girl, who won the Maple Leaf and Ontario Matron Stakes, both Grade 3s, last year. She was second in this year’ Maple Leaf Stakes in her Woodbine finale. Day Phillips originally purchased Millie Girl in 2021 for $67,000 from the Keeneland November sale.
