Canadian champion, millionaire and fan favourite MY BOY PRINCE will be at KENTUCKY DOWNS in Franklin, KY on September 5 for the $1,750,000 Light And Wonder Turf Sprint, which is part of day one of the three-day U.S. Open of Turf Championships, and is a Breeders’ Cup “Win And You’re In” qualifier for the Grade 1 $1 million Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint at Keeneland. Also featured on the action-packed program are the Grade 2 $3 million 1/ST BET Nashville Derby, the Grade 2 $2 million AGS Kentucky Turf Cup (a “Win And You’re In” qualifier for the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Turf), the Grade 2 $1.5 million Resolute Racing Ladies Turf, and the Grade 2 $1.5 million Ainsworth Music City.
My Boy Prince, bought by Gary Barber four years ago from the CTHS Ontario Canadian Premier Yearling Sale for $115,000, is up to $1.5 million in earnings from 10 wins in 27 races. Trained by Hall of Famer Mark Casse, the gelding recently won his ninth stakes races, the Van Clief, at Colonial Downs.
Kentucky Downs will be the grey son of Cairo Prince’s 10th track he has visited. The configuration of the track will be something new for ‘Prince’, who was bred by Murray Smith of Toronto. The track consists of one turf course at 1 5/16 miles of undulating grass. The seven-day race meet is heralded as a celebration of turf racing and offers $37 million in purses. Leading owners, trainers, jockeys and horses converge on the Kentucky Downs turf each year.
John Velazquez will ride My Boy Prince and the pair will start from post 11. The race is set to go off at 4:20 p.m. Eastern.
Breeder Smith has My Boy Prince’s half-sister by Constitution in the upcoming Keeneland September Yearling sale.
