Canada’s Champion two-year-old colt of 2018, AVIE’S FLATTER, sired his first winner from his first crop when Barbara Minshall’s WAR EMPEROR won his debut at Woodbine on August 23.
War Emperor, also bred and trained by Minshall, rallied from mid-pack under Romeo Maragh and was up to win the optional claiming ($40,000) dash at six furlongs by a length in 1:11.58. War Emperor is the first foal out of the winning Declaration of War mare War Empress.
The Tall Oaks Farm homebred by Flatter – Avie’s Empire by Empire Maker won the Cup and Saucer and Coronation Futurity at Woodbine Racetrack, two of Canada’s most prestigious juvenile races, during his 2018 Sovereign Award-winning two-year-old season.
He continued to succeed at three, winning the Gr. 3 Kentucky Utilities Transylvania Stakes at Keeneland, and finishing in the top-three of each leg of the Canadian Triple Crown. He finished second in the Queen’s Plate and Prince of Wales Stakes and third in the Breeders’ Stakes.
During his four-year-old season, the Josie Carroll trainee was placed in the Eclipse Stakes (G2). At five he won the Nearctic Stakes (G2) and Connaught Cup (G2) and he was placed in his final start at six, in the Grade 3 Bold Venture. His career record from 20 starts is 7-3-3.
A son of Flatter, Avie’s Flatter stood the 2026 season at Colebrook Farms Stallion Station for a $3,500 fee. He has half a dozen yearlings in the upcoming CTHS Canadian Premier Yearling Sale.
