Conquest Tsunami opened up under a hand ride down the lane to win Saturday’s $157,250 Colin Stakes for two-year-olds, at Woodbine.
Trained by Mark Casse for Conquest Stables LLC, Conquest Tsunami arrived at the six furlong ‘Poly’ sprint with a perfect record through two starts including a runaway score in the Victoria Stakes.
Bred in Ontario by Josham Farms Limited and Yvonne Schwabe Thoroughbreds, the bay son of Stormy Atlantic-Classic Neel was purchased for $190,000 at the 2013 Keeneland September Yearling Sale.
Patrick Husbands sent Conquest Tsunami immediately to the lead in the Colin facing just two rivals following the scratches of Rouge Et Blanc, Conquest Boogaloo and Calgacus. Conquest Tsunami set splits of :22.73 and :45.78 as a rail-skimming Honkeytonk Man and outside stalking R U Watchingbud tracked his early foot.
Conquest Tsunami maintained a three-length lead at the top of the lane before Husbands opened the colt up a notch and sprinted clear a 6 3/4-length winner in a final running time of 1:10.22. R U Watchingbud stayed on for place.
Husbands was full of praise for the three-for-three colt.
“He was the class of the race and he showed today that he was the best horse,” said Husbands. “He won pretty easy, but he could win easier than that. He’ll have to step up a few more notches if he wants to tackle the big boys.”
Conquest Tsunami banked $103,500 in victory while maintaining a perfect record.
He returned $2.10 combining with R U Watchingbud for a $5.00 (5-3) exactor. Place, show and triactor wagering were not offered.
