Rexdale, ON – The CTHS (Ontario Division) honoured the Ontario-bred champions of 2007 at their Annual Awards dinner held on June 13th at Glencairn Golf Club, in Milton, Ontario.
The event recognized partners Mike Carroll and John C. Harvey, Jr. as Breeder of the Year and the late Tammy Samuel-Balaz as this year’s recipient of the Blood-Horse Mint Julep Cup award. Other highlights included the presentation of 91 awards to the Ontario breeders of Historical Grade 1 Canadian or Open Graded Stakes and the Ontario-Bred Stakes Winners of 2007.
Four stallions received awards based on their 2007 earnings of eligible progeny, with 1st place presented to Bold Executive, 2nd place to Bold N’ Flashy, and 3rd place to Tethra. The award for 2007 Top 1st Crop Ontario Sire was presented to Ciano Cat.
Four CTHS Ontario members were recognized for their 25-year contribution to the Thoroughbred breeding industry, while Melnyk Racing Stable received The Jockey Club of Canada Award for 2007 Leading Owner in Ontario.
A silent auction also took place during the evening in support of LongRun Thoroughbred Retirement, one of the first adoption and placement programs for Thoroughbred racehorses in Ontario.
