Over 465 yearlings are set to take centre stage in September at the CTHS Canadian-Bred Yearling Sale, a group who will no doubt add to the growing list of money-making Yearling Sales graduates.
Long-regarded as the premiere source of Canadian-Breds, the Selected Session will be held on September 7th with 225 yearlings offered and the Open Session on September 11th with 241 yearlings. Both sessions begin at 2 p.m. at the Woodbine Sales Pavilion, Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, Ontario.
Featured on this year’s catalogue cover is 2004 Yearling Sales graduate Society’s Chairman, winner of the Grade 3 Appleton Stakes at Gulfstream and placed in the Grade 1 Maker’s Mark Mile at Keeneland in 2010. Bred by Errol Bailey of Ontario, the seven-year-old son of Not Impossible (IRE) sold in the 2004 Yearling Sale for $40,000 and currently has career earnings of $508,983 U.S.
Over 130 top sires are represented in this year’s sale, including some of North America’s most popular: Afleet Alex, Bernstein, Bob and John, Broken Vow, Candy Ride (ARG), City Zip, Discreet Cat, Dixie Union, Dixieland Band, Exchange Rate, Fusaichi Pegasus, Giant’s Causeway, Grand Slam, Holy Bull, Langfuhr, Lawyer Ron, Lemon Drop Kid, Limehouse, Lion Heart, Northern Afleet, Rockport Harbor, Quiet American, Silver Deputy, Stormy Atlantic, Thunder Gulch; and several leading OSS sires, such as Bold Executive, Old Forester, and Where’s the Ring.
Buyers on the lookout for an excellent return on their investment should look no further than the CTHS Yearling Sale, said Julie Coulter, CTHS General Manager.
“I believe we have a strong catalogue this year, and just from the amount of interest we’ve received so far, we’re expecting an excellent sale,” said Coulter.
With the strength of the $20.9 million Thoroughbred Improvement Program (TIP) and lucrative purse structure offered at both Woodbine and Fort Erie Racetracks, it certainly pays to buy and race in Ontario! In addition, all yearlings from this year’s sale will be eligible to participate in the $750,000 Sales Stakes at Woodbine, and beginning next year, purses for both the Muskoka and Simcoe Stakes, which are restricted to two-year-olds, have been increased from $125,000 to $200,000.
Other highlights of this year’s Sale include $1,000 airfare rebates, special rates at hotels just minutes from the Sales Pavilion, and the broadcasting of the Sale live via the CTHS website at http://www.cthsont.com/.
