The Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society, Alberta Division CTHS (AB), is pleased to announce the appointment of Dawson Guhle as its new General Manager, effective September 3rd, 2024. With many years of extensive involvement in the Thoroughbred industry, Dawson brings a wealth of experience and a deep-rooted passion to his new role.

Dawson initially established himself as a Thoroughbred breeder with the purchase of two mares at a 2012 Fasig-Tipton sale and had considerable success consigning their foals to his first CTHS Alberta Sale in 2014. One yearling, Ripple, developed into a stakes placed runner while the other, Northernlocomotive, became a Fall Classic winner, and the only Alberta bred runner to become a final entry in the Canadian Derby that year. Other noteworthy horses Dawson has bred and consigned to the CTHS Alberta sales include the eight year old Zicatela, winner of the 2019 Fall Classic Beaufort Stakes and still racing successfully today in Alberta.

Dawson has immersed himself in every facet of the industry with hands-on involvement and unwavering enthusiasm as a fan. He has become a valued member of the CTHS Alberta, with his commitment to the Thoroughbred industry as a breeder, owner and consignor.

In his other capacities within the Thoroughbred sector, Dawson has established himself as a dedicated and knowledgeable professional, contributing significantly to the growth and development of Alberta’s horse racing and breeding landscape. He is a co-founder of Agri/Gate, a revolutionary app and web-based platform designed to simplify communication between stakeholders while educating new fans and owners.

Dawson’s comprehensive understanding of both the operational and strategic facets of the industry positions him well to lead the CTHS Alberta in its mission to support and promote Alberta’s Thoroughbred breeders and owners. Dawson will be working closely with the CTHS Alberta members, stakeholders, and the broader community to further advance the interests of Alberta’s Thoroughbred breeding and racing industry.

The appointment of Dawson comes at an important time for the CTHS (Alberta) as it continues to develop opportunities and face challenges within the industry. His leadership is expected to play a crucial role in driving strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing breeding programs, expanding market opportunities, and advocating for the interests of Thoroughbred breeders across Alberta. The role is a pivotal part in ensuring the CTHS (Alberta Division) office operates in a positive, efficient, cost-effective manner on behalf of its Board and membership. The role is seen as the trusted communicator and information source by its membership.
