FLAMINGO GIRL (Ger) returns to racing at Meydan Racecourse in Dubai on Friday, January 13, but the daughter of Soldier Hollow – Flamingo Sky by Silver Hawk returns as a gelding. In an oddity, Flamingo Girl, who raced in 2020 and 2021 for trainer Hank Grewe, was stripped of her Group 3 win in the Premio Elena Sergio Cumani at Cappannelle in September, 2021 when she was found to have elevated levels of testosterone.
It was later found that the filly had male sex organs which had to be removed; in other words, she was gelded. Now the filly cannot race in Germany and she will debut for trainer Doug Watson at Meydan in a handicap against other colts and geldings on Friday.
“She’s a filly, and she’s a good looking filly, too,” trainer Watson told the Racing Post. “She behaves like a filly, but it’s not as straightforward as that as we all know. She’s been very settled over here, she’s got a lovely attitude and we’ll just have to see where we can get to with her.”
