Rico Walcott rode Edison to victory this afternoon in the 85th running of the Canadian Derby at Northlands Park Racetrack & Casino. This is Rico’s second consecutive Canadian Derby championship following last year’s victory on Broadway Empire.

Trainer Robertino Diodoro and owners Fouad El Kardy, Bob Butz and Rick Running Rabbit watched as Edison, from several of same connections as last year’s winner Broadway Empire, delighted fans by winning the Canadian Derby with 5-2 odds. Coming in second place was Remembertobreathe ridden by Ryan Pacheco and trained by Sylvea Gregory and in third place was Private Money Game ridden by Damario Bynoe and trained by Linda Kropius.
