Toronto, ON – Woodbine Oaks, presented by Budweiser, contender Embur’s Song made an impressive Woodbine debut in Saturday’s third race. A 13 1/4-length winner at Keeneland on April 17, the Fares Farm filly shipped to Toronto for her two-turn debut in the $71,600 feature at 1 1/16 miles.
Under Chantal Sutherland, the Ontario-bred daughter of Unbridled’s Song went straight to the front, fought off a second-turn challenge from four-year-old Clear Lake and opened up at will in the stretch, under the wire a 3 3/4-length winner.
The filly’s time of 1:42.44 is the fastest time ever recorded by a filly at 1 1/16 miles over the Polytrack. She was just 0.22 off the track record of True Metropolitan.
Embur’s Song is trained by Todd Pletcher, who won his first Kentucky Derby earlier this month with Super Saver. The filly is one of 54 three-year-olds eligible for the $1 million Queen’s Plate on July 4. The Woodbine Oaks, presented by Budweiser, is set for June 13.
