North America’s leading woman jockey by earnings, EMMA-JAYNE WILSON, Canada’s popular and dedicated horseperson, will miss the remainder of the 2024 racing season following surgery on her pelvis this past weekend. Wilson was on Ready Shakespeare in a race on Friday at Woodbine when the gelding had an apparent fatal cardiac episode and fell, throwing Wilson into the railing. Wilson was taken to Sunnybrook hospital in downtown Toronto.

The following note was released on Monday morning:

Scans have confirmed neck and pelvic fractures; successful surgery to stabilize the pelvis, her case is being expertly managed by the Sunnybrook and other trauma teams. Emma’s team is happy to share she is resting comfortably.
