Fort Erie’s 125th racing season begins Tuesday, May 31 with more than 85 horses entered for 10 races including two grass races. The border oval’s first race post time is 4:05 p.m EST.

Later, at 7:35 p.m. CST, Assiniboia Downs in Winnipeg opens its 50-day meeting with seven races.

Fort Erie’s card for opening day is impressive considering the skimpy horse population throughout Canada which has led to Hastings, Century Mile and Woodbine carding as few as 6 and 7 races per day with modest-sized fields. The Tuesday Fort Erie card will be followed by day 2 of the season June 6.
