Fresh Horse Program

For horses that have previously started elsewhere in 2021-2022; available to BC residents only

A guaranteed $9000 total bonus for any Applicant horses first three starts at Hastings Racecourse whose previous start were made outside of British Columbia

Program Rules:

  • Horses that raced or were stabled previously at Hastings Racecourse are not eligible.
  • $3000 Bonus after the horse’s first start paid to owner of record (conditions as set out).
  • An additional $3000 after the horse’s second start paid to the original owner of record (conditions as set out).
  • An additional $3000 after the horse’s third start (conditions as set out) for a maximum value of $9,000 under this program.
  • An additional $1000 is also available to help defer shipping costs.
  • Stakes and allowance races are excluded from this program.
  • All horses must have started for $4,000 or more in their last three starts to qualify. If a horse has not started three times, then all its lifetime starts must be for $4,000 or more.
  • First-time starters do not qualify for the Fresh Horse Program.
  • Application must be made to the Nichelle Milner (director of racing nichele.milner@hastingracecourse.com or Cristan Gossen the horsemen’s bookkeeper Cristan@bctoba.com
  • Application must be made by June 1, 2022.
  • Applicants agree that the registration papers will remain in the Hastings Racecourse racing office for the entire 2022 season. Repayment of funds received from this program will release the papers.
  • Horses who are otherwise eligible for this program but do not meet the claiming price requirement are eligible to receive $1,000 upon their first start at Hastings in 2022. If an otherwise eligible horse (eligible except for meeting the claiming price requirement) is brought to Hastings by a BC resident and is 100% BC owned, that horse will be eligible to receive a further $1,000 for a total of $2,000 upon its first start at Hastings.
  • Horses must arrive at Hastings Racecourse on or before June 1, 2022 and start by July 1, 2022 to be eligible.
  • Horses that have made their previous start in Washington or Oregon are not eligible.

All monies earned under this program will be paid to the original owner of record at the time of first start, claiming or purchasing the horse after the first start does not transfer eligibility.

This Program Cannot Be Combined With Any Other Hastings Incentive Programs.

 

Wintering Incentive Program 2022

For lower-level claiming horses at Hastings; available to BC residents only

Program Rules

  • Total of $5500.00 per qualifying horse available.
  • The Industry Associations, in recognition of the economic realities of wintering and training lower level claiming horses, have implemented a plan to provide an incentive of $5500 for horses that make their last start of 2021 at Hastings for claiming price of $6,250 or less ($8000 or less in the case of BC Breds) and make their first start in 2022 at Hastings at any level. Horses which waiver claim for $6,250 or less in their last start ($8,000 or less in the case of BC Breds) are also eligible.
  • To remain eligible a horse must not have started at any other track after the close of the 2021 Hastings season prior to making its first start of 2022 at Hastings.
  • When an eligible horse arrives and is stabled at Hastings in 2022 with the intention of racing at the 2022 Hastings Race Meet the papers must be placed with and accepted by the Hastings Race office.
  • $3000 will paid on the horses first start of the 2022 and an additional $2,500 will be paid to the owner on the second start.
  • The owner must undertake to leave the horse’s papers in the Hastings Race Office until the end of the 2022 Hastings Racing Season and to race the horse exclusively at Hastings Racecourse until the end of the 2022 Hastings Racing Season.
  • Repayment of all Wintering Incentive money received for the horse will release the papers at any time.
  • Horses which start at any racetrack other than at Hastings after the date of August 12, 2021 are not eligible for this program.
