Friday evening’s SWEET BRIAR TOO Stakes at Woodbine, named for the dam of Grade 1 winner and top sire Langfuhr, is a fun sprint stakes to headline Woodbine’s Racing Night Live show on TSN.

The 6 1/2 furlong dash on the Tapeta, Race 7,  could go a long way to decide the Sovereign Award winner, at least finalists for Champion Sprint Female in Canada and Champion Older Female, Main Track.

PAINTING, a regally-bred 4-year-old filly from the powerful Josie Carroll barn, is a top contender for the Female Sprinter Sovereign Award based on a 95 Beyer Figure victory in the Grade 3 Ontario Fashion Stakes Sept. 26. Previously, the Hill ‘n’ Dale Equine Holdings, Inc and Glenn Sikura’s stretch-running daughter of Distorted Humor was second in the Grade 3 Seaway Stakes and Grade 3 Whimsical Stakes. She was also second in the 1 1/16 mile Trillium Stakes (G3).

Her arch rival is SOUPER ESCAPE, Live Oak Plantation’s 4-year-old homebred trained by Michael Trombetta who defeated Painting twice, once in a sprint race. Souper Escape’s two stakes wins were at 7 furlongs and 1 1/16 miles and she was recently third at odds-on in the Belle Mahone Stakes to 2019 Champion Female Sprinter SUMMER SUNDAY, who is also in the Sweet Briar Too.

Souper Escape has a new rider Friday night in Emma-Jayne Wilson. Patrick Husbands rides Painting.

Summer Sunday is back in form with that Belle Mahone win and could enter the fray for a Sovereign Award for Female Sprinter with a win.
