The March. 28 Florida Derby (G1) for 3-year-olds will be the main event on a sensational 14-race program (first-race post โ€“11:30 a.m.) featuring 10 stakes, six graded, worth $1.825 million in purses. The $200,000 Gulfstream Park Oaks (G2) presented by Fasig-Tipton and the $200,000 Kittenโ€™s Joy Pan American (G2) will be highlights on the Florida Derby undercard, along with the $100,000 Halโ€™s Hope (G3), the $100,000 Orchid presented by Rood & Riddle (G3) and the $100,000 Appleton (G3).

For racing fans and bettors, who fuel horse racingโ€™s purses, this will be the last big day of major racing, dirt and turf, to be enjoyed in some time. Only the May 2 Arkansas Derby at Oaklawn, a dirt-only track, remains as a big race and just a handful of racetracks are still conducting racing.

It remains to be seen if Gulfstream can continue racing much longer, if at all, past the Derby on Saturday. However, the track, which runs through the summer, has been battling the city of Hallandale to continue business.
