GREEK GEEK, the Alberta-bred sensation of 2021, won his sixth straight race, three of them stakes races, on October 16 at Century Mile in Nisku, Alberta. The 4-year-old gelding, bred by Moonshine Meadow Ranch and owned by Riversedge Racing Stables, made up a pile of ground to win the $50,000 CTHS Sales Stakes for colts and geldings at seven furlongs, edging Theshack by a neck. He sped the distance in 1:21.57, just missing the track record.

Trained by Tim Rycroft, Greek Geek had previously won the Alberta Breeders’ Handicap at 1 1/16 miles and the open Century Mile Handicap on Sept. 11.

The son of California stallion Misremembered (Candy Ride (Arg)) – A E Phi Sensation by Johannesburg has won six of eight races this season and has earned $115,304.

Greek Geek, the 4-to-5 favourite in the CTHS Sales Stakes, was behind early in the long sprint but fast pace fractions of :22.16 and :44.60 helped the bay gelding rally in time with Enrique Gonzalez riding.

“I was worried. When he broke last I thought he had too much ground to make up but Enrique gave him a perfectly patient ride,” said Norm Castligione of Riversedge. “He’s so classy, I just love watching him run.”

Greek Geek was purchased for $7,708 (US) at the 2018 Alberta CTHS Mixed Sale.
