GUFO, a six-year-old son of Declaration of War and three-time Grade 1 winner, will stand his first season at stud at Ballycroy Bloodstock in Loretto, ON next spring. A multi-millionaire who raced from two to five, Gufo became a stakes winner in his second start at three and one race later captured his first graded stakes in the 1 1/8-mile Kent Stakes (G3T) at Delaware Park. Trained by Christophe Clement for Dr. Stephen Cainelli’s Otter Bend Stables, Gufo, bred by Cainelli and Dr. John Little, won consecutive editions of the Sword Dancer Stakes (G1) in 2021-22 at Saratoga Race Course, the 2020 Belmont Derby Invitational Stakes (G1T), and the 2022 Pan American Stakes (G2T) at Gulfstream Park. For his career, he won or placed in 12 graded stakes. He was retired with a 9-4-5 record from 21 starts and earned $2,176,530.

Clement’s assistant, son Miguel, often noted how Gufo, produced from the Petionville mare Floy, had a ‘great turn of foot’ and was a stable favourite.

The horse is a half-brother to Grade 3 stakes winner Hogy, who won 19 of 55 races including the Kentucky Downs Turf Sprint (G3) and Canadian Turf Stakes (G3).
