Due to the heat wave currently in the lower mainland with temperatures reaching into the 40s Celsius, Hastings Racecourse has announced the cancellation of its Tuesday program. The Monday program had previously been cancelled.

Both cancelled days will be made up at a later date to be announced.

A heat warning issued for coastal BC predicted daytime highs ranging from 33 to 43 degrees Celsius and humidex values reaching the mid 40’s. This record-breaking heat event will increase the potential for heat-related illnesses. Temperatures are expected to begin to lower on Wednesday.

Further inland, the town of Lytton just broke the record for the hottest temperature ever recorded in Canada, registering 46.1ºC on Sunday.
