ENRIQUE GONZALEZ’S three wins on the final day of racing at Hastings racecourse Sunday October 27 landed him in a tie with ANTONIO REYES for the Vancouver track’s leading rider. Reyes, who won the first two races on Sunday maintained a one-race lead until midway through the card when Gonzalez took his third win.
Both riders ended up with 57 victories. It was the first time in the history of Hastings that jockeys tied for first by wins.
Phil Hall won 53 races to top all trainers while Glen Todd’s Northern American Thoroughbred Horse Company led all owners with purse earnings of $532,093 from 25 wins.
The leading owners at the meeting included the undefeated 2-year-old filly INFINITE PATIENCE, who was 5 for 5 at the meeting for William DeCoursey and R N H Stable and HERE’S HANNAH, who won 5 of 6 races this year for BC Stable.
Nigel Reid reports for the CTHS BC that the top five, and eight of the top ten, juveniles, in terms of money won, were all bred in the Province and Stakes wins or CAPILANO CANYON (Abraaj) and INFINITE PATIENCE (Sungold) proved yet again that not all good horses have KY after their name.
Infinite Patience stands a good chance to be named Canada’s Champion 2-year-old filly since there has not been a standout gal in Ontario or other provinces.
At the upcoming Swift Thoroughbreds of Horatio Kemeny and Mark Mache and the stakes winner and stakes producer Dancing Allstar will be inducted into the BC Racing Hall of Fame Industry Awards night, Dec. 5.
