Hastings Racecourse is offering a Ship & Win Program for the 2022 live racing season.

Ship & Win will provide horsemen and horsewomen who bring in out-of-province runners to race at Hastings this summer a $3,000 starter bonus for their initial outing along with an additional 35% purse bonus for all starts made in all claiming races

The purse bonuses extend to additional starts at the meet and are designed to enhance all purses won by first through third finishers. Further, should a Ship & Win horse be claimed out of its first outing and subsequently run back at the meet, the original owner and trainer will receive all bonuses.

The simple rules for Ship & Win runners are as follows:

  • Horses must have made their last start outside of British Columbia
  • Horses cannot have raced in British Columbia in the past 24 months
  • First-time starters are not eligible
  • $3,000 first-race starter fee to all qualifying horse(s) paid in the following manner:
  • Trainer of Record to receive $1,000 when the horse arrives at Hastings.
  • The Owner of Record at the time of the horses first start to receive $2,000
  • 35% purse bonus for all finishers first through third for the first start, and any subsequent start to be paid out in claiming races only. The 35% Bonus earnings to be paid as follows:
    – 30% to the Owner
    – 5% to the Trainer
  • If a Ship & Win horse is acquired after its initial start, the original owner and trainer earns all 35% bonuses for subsequent outings through the 2022 Hastings meet
  • Allowance & Stakes runners (including overnight stakes) are not eligible for the 35% supplement, but will receive the $3,000 starter bonus ($2,000 to owner, $1,000 to Trainer)

In September Hastings announced a major purse increase for the 2021 season. The track expects to average more than $156,000 per day in purses. Hastings will begin its 45-day meet on May 7th and race through to October 16th.
