The backstretch workers at Woodbine were honoured last week by the Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association of Ontario with a day of a free hot meal procured by the Woodbine backstretch kitchen, a hoodie giveaway, and cheque presentations to three of the top grooms and assistant trainers.

The grooms and assistant trainers honoured represented three different categories: smaller barn, mid-sized barn and large stable.

LINDA DAVIS, who grooms for trainer Santino DiPaola, JOSEPH FERRIS, a groom for Sid Attard and SARA HALL, from Phil Hall’s barn were presented with cheques during a ceremony between races at Woodbine on Nov. 13.

MARK JOHNSON, assistant trainer for Don MacRae was named one of the top three AT’s. He was joined by BRENT HARRIS, longtime assistant for Mike Doyle and BRAD MCKNIGHT, who is the assistant for his father Norm McKnight.
