Jockey Patrick Husbands made a winning return to Woodbine in the five-furlong fourth race aboard four-year-old colt Blueblood on Saturday afternoon.
As Blueblood turned for home pressing pacesetter Speeding Bullet, fans cheered Patrick Husbands home. The duo rallied clear down the stretch to win by 1-3/4 lengths in :57.27 for trainer Mark Casse and owner Quintessential Racing Florida.
“I feel so proud and so happy to be back,” said Husbands after the race. “The emotion is always there, but I’m happy and proud to be still walking. I can’t believe I’m still walking and I’m happy right now.”
The multiple Sovereign award-winning jockey returned to action on Saturday after recovering from a broken pelvis that he sustained last November when dismounted during a pre-race incident.
Blueblood returned $4.90 to win as the 7-5 favourite. Alacritous finished second with Silent Jimmie taking third-place honours over Speeding Bullet.
Husbands is scheduled to resume riding on Sunday with a pair of mounts on the eight-race program, which gets underway at 1 p.m.
