Inflation Nation, a multiple stakes-placed son of Speightstown, has been retired to stud at Tara Horse Farm in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario. His fee will be $1,000 (CAD).
Produced from the Galileo mare Urban Ball, a half-sister to successful Canadian sires Perfect Soul and Not Impossible, Inflation Nation won second time out as a two-year-old versus maiden special weight company going 5 1/2 furlongs on turf at Saratoga.
At three, he ran second, beaten just a head, in the Paradise Creek Stakes going seven furlongs on the turf at Belmont Park, and second in the Woodhaven Stakes going one mile on the turf at Aqueduct. He also finished third in the Atlantic Beach Stakes going six furlongs on the turf at Aqueduct in the fall of his juvenile season.
Inflation Nation, a $100,000 OBS Spring Two-Year-Olds in Training Sale graduate, retires with a record of 23-3-6-1 and earnings of $209,912.
“Physically, you can see a lot of his sire Speightstown in Inflation Nation. He’s a horse who’s built for speed, power and precocity,” said Thomas Knizat, owner of Tara Horse Farm. “But beneath the surface, there’s a deep vein of class and stamina, not only from his broodmare sire, the legendary Galileo, but also from his incredible female family. Inflation Nation’s half-sister Merimbula, by Dalakhani, was Group 2 multiple stakes-placed in France, and there are 15 additional black-type horses to date under Inflation Nation’s second dam, Charles Fipke’s foundation mare Ball Chairman, by Secretariat.”
Knizat explained that Speightstown’s growing reputation as a sire of sires — via his sons Munnings, Central Banker and Echo Town, plus up-and-comers Prince of Monaco, Olympiad and Nashville — made Inflation Nation a must-have stallion prospect. To date, Speightstown has sired 146 black-type winners from 18 crops of racing age, with total progeny earnings exceeding $170 million.
“It also doesn’t hurt that Inflation Nation’s dam is a half-sister to not just one, but two influential Canadian stallions,” Knizat added. “To that end, we’d love for Ontario breeders to consider sending daughters of Perfect Soul, Not Impossible, Society’s Chairman and Not Bourbon, resulting in foals who will have the Rasmussen Factor via Ball Chairman.”
The deal to bring Inflation Nation to Canada was brokered by New Jersey-based bloodstock agent Michael Slezak.
