Jenna’s Wabbit, with Eurico Rosa da Silva aboard, would not be denied with a powerful stretch run to take Saturday’s featured $125,800 Bold Ruckus Stakes, an Ontario Sires event for three-year-olds, at Woodbine.
The dark bay son of Old Forester-In the Buff, conditioned by Ralph Biamonte, sat off the early speed of Raincoats’ntuxedos who set a blistering pace marking a quarter in :22.22 and a half in :45.10 with Everyday Dave pressing every step of the way over an E.P Taylor Turf Course listed as ‘yielding’.
Jenna’s Wabbit lacked running room at the top of the stretch but closed determinedly down the lane and despite bumping with Bear and Rod at the quarter pole, da Silva straightened his charge out to notch a two and a half length victory in a final time of 1:09.98. A resilient Raincoats’ntuxedos held on for second, a length and three quarters in front of a closing Locally Made.
Biamonte was impressed with the three-year-old debut of Jenna’s Wabbit who won three races, including the Bull Page and Frost King Stakes, as a juvenile.
“His attitude this year is even better,” said Biamonte. “He was like a big kid last year, and he’s really matured and real sensible now. He’s a real pleasure to have.”
A claim of foul against Jenna’s Wabbit was denied by the stewards.
“He was in great position and not using himself at all,” said da Silva. “He really liked the turf. He’s a great horse to ride.”
Jenna’s Wabbit picked up a $75,000 pot for his third stakes victory (and fourth career win) and paid $8.70, $3.90 and $3.10, combining with Raincoats’ntuxedos ($3.60, $3) for a $33.10 (4-1) exactor. A 4-1-11 (Locally Made, $7.70 to show) triactor fashioned a $557.40 payoff while a $1 Superfecta [4-1-11-9 (Mr. Monty) came back $2,314.75.
