Bill and Vicki Poston’s Jenny’s So Great closed with a strong deep-stretch rush to claim victory in Sunday’s $150,800 Carotene Stakes at Woodbine.
The 1 1/8-mile E.P. Taylor Turf Course event for Ontario-foaled three-year-old fillies was the first career stakes score for the daughter of Greatness. Jenny’s So Great ran by Jacally, who finished second, inside the
eighth pole and powered under the wire a 1 ½-length winner. More Miss Crissy was third. The filly covered 1 1/8 miles in 1:51.58 over ‘good’ terrain.
Under winning jockey Jose Ferrer, Jenny’s So Great saved ground in sixth early and advanced along the inside on the turn. In mid-stretch, Ferrer attempted to angle the bay filly outside, but quickly abandoned
the option when forced to check off heels.
An inside seam saved the day for Jenny’s So Great, who quickened nicely when angled back to the portable rail for clear room. “I was happy to see Jose (Ferrer, jockey) switch her back to the inside,” said De Gannes. “She’s gotten so much confidence since getting on the turf.”
The filly, who was second in the wide open Ontario Colleen at one mile, is now 2-for-5 on the turf. Overall, she is 4-for-15 with $361,773 in earnings.
Jenny’s So Great returned $6.10, $3.40 and $2.60, combining with Jacally ($3.80, $2.90) for a $23.70 exactor. More Miss Crissy ($5.20) rounded out a triactor worth $153.50. A $1 superfecta returned $188.40.
