The finalists for the 51st Sovereign Awards, presented by the Jockey Club of Canada honouring the best in Canadian racing for 2025, were revealed on February 13 and GAS ME UP and MY BOY PRINCE (Turf Male and Male Sprinter finalists), two-year-old Grade 1 winners ARGOS and CORSIA VELOCE (two-year-old male, two-year-old female and Turf Male, Female Turf respectively) and READY FOR SHIRL (Female Turf, Older Mare Main Track) are the double finalists.
King’s Plate winner MANSETTI is up for Champion Three-Year-Old Male.
CHIEFSWOOD STABLE is up for Outstanding Owner and Breeder competing against Anderson Farms and Frank DiGiulio Jr. for Breeder and Al and Bill Ulwelling and Bruno Schickedanz for Owner.
Leading rider RAFAEL HERNANDEZ is a finalist for Outstanding Jockey, seeking his first Sovereign since 2020, and he is up against 2025 winner SAHIN CIVACI and Outstanding Apprentice finalist PIETRO MORAN.
The Horse of the Year finalists will be announced on the evening of Thursday, April 23, 2026 at Paramount Eventspace in Woodbridge, Ontario. Tickets can be purchased online HERE.
