Surrounded by his wife Renee, four children Owen, Jeremy, Elias and Gavin, and fellow jockeys, an emotional Justin Stein said goodbye to fans, Sunday afternoon at Woodbine.
Stein, 36, is retiring after Sunday’s card at Woodbine with 1,028 wins and 15 years of race-riding to move back to his native British Columbia.
Stein was presented with a framed piece, which acknowledged his biggest career achievements including the 2012 Queen’s Plate (Strait of Dover) and 2015 Woodbine Oaks, presented by Budweiser (Academic), by Steve Lym, Woodbine’s Director of Racing, in a ceremony after the afternoon’s second race.
“I’m going to miss all the horses that I’ve ridden over the years,” Stein said, “I’ll remember many of them. I’m thankful for all the hearts they’ve shown and given me.”
