Preparations continue at Churchill Downs and other tracks for the most famous races for 3-year-olds in America next week, the 146th Kentucky Derby and the Kentucky Oaks (Friday).

The races are being run four months later than usual due to the COVID-19 pandemic. No fans will be at Churchill Downs other those people connected with starters. And while both races have two heavily-favoured stars, the bulk of each field are made up of a wide assortment of sophomores who may have not been anywhere near the starting gate of these races had they been in May.

But the races lost stars because they werenโ€™t run in May and gained some starters because of the late date.
