MR. MONOMOY, MODERNIST and SILVER PROSPECTOR won stakes races on the weekend that offered Kentucky Derby points and the trio have zoomed up the list of point leaders for the Run for the Roses.
Mr. Monomoy, by Palace Malice and Modernist, by Uncle Mo, won divisions of the Risen Star Stakes (G2) on Feb. 15 at Fair Grounds while Silver Prospector, a son of Declaration of War, won the very rich Grade 3 Southwest Stakes, worth $750,000.
Ed and Susie Orr’s Silver Prospector, trained by Steve Asmussen, rebounded from a fourth in the opening day Smarty Jones Stakes to secure his position as a leading Kentucky Derby contender with a one-length victory in the Southwest.
