Heather and Brent Hyrmak’s KICKALITTLEBOOTY won the $25,000 Manitoba Oaks at Assiniboia Downs on July 28, giving trainer Brent Hyrmak the second straight open stakes victory of his career. The winner, a Kentucky-bred by Midshipman from Lady Doris, by Pulpit, was 6 to 5 off her win in the Chantilly Stakes and she overhauled previously unbeaten Dazzling Gold to win by a length under Antonio Whitehall.
Dazzling Gold was second but was disqualified and place fifth for interference on the final turn.
Kickalittlebooty, bred by Hinkle Farms, was purchased by the late Ardell Sayler for $6,500 at the 2018 Keeneland September yearling sale. The filly has won 3 of 5 races and over $35,000 (US).
On July 29, GOLD BUYER won the $25,000 Manitoba Mile for older horses under Kayla Pizarro, leading a 1-2-3 parade of Jerry Gourneau-trained horses in the one mile dirt race. The winner came from five lengths off the pace to win by a length at 5 to 2 for owner Mike Powers. Kayla Pizarro was the winning rider.
The Texas-bred by My Golden Song has won 4 of 23 career races and has earned over $110,000.
Business continues to boom at Assiniboia, which recently announced a purse increase. Handle each evening at the Winnipeg track regularly tops $1 million. This coming Monday, August 3, the carryover for the Pick 5 is over $300,000.
