The seventeen King’s Plate starters will be examined from every angle ahead of the 164th Gallop for the Guineas on Sunday at Woodbine Racetrack. So, we thought we’d pitch in by taking a closer look at the four Ontario Sired runners.

(3) PHILIP MY DEAR (Silent Name (JPN) – Involuntary)
Bred by Adena Springs, this late running Silent Name (JPN) colt is lightly raced as a three-year-old, with just two starts since he was named Canada’s Champion two-year-old.
The Kevin Attard trainee had a wide run in the Plate Trial, but was finishing well across the line, and has worked twice since then at half a mile and five eighths.
““He’s coming into the race doing really well,” said Attard. “I expect him to step up to the challenge in his third start of the year.”
He’s owned by Raroma Stable, who had Munnyfor Ro run fourth in the 2021 Queen’s Plate.
(9) SILENT MIRACLE (Silent Name (JPB) – Broken Meadow)
This RCC Racing Stable homebred is aptly named after entering world in a precarious way, overcoming losing oxygen when he was born.
The John Mattine trainee has a pair of optional claiming wins this season, and will step up to face stakes company for the first time in the King’s Plate.
“I’m excited. Anytime you’re in a race like this and if you’re in the gate you have to be excited,” said Mattine. “But if you’re in it, you have a chance, and that’s exciting.
(13) PARAMOUNT PRINCE (Society’s Chairman – Platinum Steel)
Paramount Prince was dominant in the Plate Trial, winning by five lengths over his nearest challenger in a gate to wire romp.
He finished second in both of his other starts this season, one in the Queenston Stakes, and the other in optional claiming company in his season debut. The Plate Trial was his first time racing more than seven furlongs and the Mark Casse trainee seemed to relish the distance.
“After the race he kept going, he galloped out a good mile and a quarter so I don’t think the distance would be an issue for him,” said Casse. “And I think (jockey) Patrick Husbands let him do it too because we knew down the road, he’s going to have to run a little farther.”
He’s owned by Mike Langlois and Gary Barber.
(16) EL COHETE (Society’s Chairman – Diannecantretire)
The Society’s Chairman gelding debuted as a three-year-old and has a trio of in the money finishes this season.
His name means The Rocket in Spanish, and he has improved as he has stretched further, finishing second behind fellow Plate starter Twowaycrossing at 1 1/16 miles in his last outing for trainer Mike Di Paulo.
““He’s a good-feeling horse,” said Di Paulo. “He’s always been a good work horse. We always thought he could run. Hopefully, he shows that again on Sunday.”
His owners Rocco D’Alimonte and Frank Annecchini are one win away from 100 as an ownership group.
