Canadian and Jamaican horse racing lost one of the pillars of the turf this week. LAURIE SILVERA passed away in Ontario with his family beside him at the age of 89.

He was a tall, imposing gentleman but a gentle giant always complete with his impressive stetson and he loved to pick out and develop Thoroughbred racehorses. He came by his nickname โ€˜Sir Laurieโ€™ honestly; there were few horsemen based in this province who could pluck a young horse from a sale for little money and have them rise to the top.
