Fourteen of the top 3-year-old fillies in America will contest the 147th Kentucky Oaks at 1 1/8 miles on Friday, April 30 at Churchill Downs in Louisville Kentucky.
The Oaks is race 12 with an approximate post of 5:51 p.m.
MALATHAAT, owned by Shadwell Stable and a $1,050,000 yearling purchase, is the 5-to-2 favourite for trainer Todd Pletcher. The filly is undefeated in all four races including the Grade 1 Ashland Stakes in her season debut. She is one of three gals in the field by the great stallion Curlin.
Co-favoured at 3-to-1 is the impressive grey gal TRAVEL COLUMN, winner of the Fair Grounds Oaks for OXO Equine. She was an $850,000 yearling purchase and she is trained by Brad Cox. Also at 3-to-1 is another Curlin gal, CLAIRIERE, winner of the Rachel Alexandra Stakes and second to Travel Column in the Fair Grounds Oaks. She is a homebred for Stonestreet Stables and is trained by Steve Asmussen.
CRAZY BEAUTIFUL had a monster workout last weekend for trainer Ken McPeek and she comes in off a win in the Grade 2 Gulfstream Park Oaks. This gal is owned by the troubled Phoenix Thoroughbred III Stable.
Winnipeg-born trainer ROB ATRAS, former assistant to Robertino Diodoro, has MARACUJA in the Oaks field. This grey gal was second in the Grade 3 Gazelle Stakes to Search Results and is owned by Beach Haven Thoroughbreds.
