Eight months after the 2021 running of the world’s most famous race, the Kentucky Derby (G1), a hearing is expected to be held on February 7 with regards to the positive test from winner MEDINA SPIRIT.
Trainer Bob Baffert confirmed the hearing date Thursday during the fourth day of a hearing with the New York Racing Association which has pursued a suspension of Baffert from its tracks due to post-race positive tests at other tracks. Medina Spirit, who died following a workout in December. tested positive for betamethasone following the Kentucky Derby on May 1. Baffert and his attorneys have claimed that the positive was due to a topical cream called Otomax, as opposed to an injection of the medication.
Baffert took the stand during the NYRA hearing and was questioned for more than three hours with regards to numerous positive tests in the last few years.
