Canada Day could be a barn-burner at Assiniboia Downs in the Canada Day Stakes if the undefeated HIDDEN GRACE makes her season debut in that event. Her main rival will be the sizzling Miss Imperial.
MURRAY DUNCAN claimed MISS IMPERIAL for $25,000 (US) on April 11 at Oaklawn Park and it is interesting to note that this MacLean’s Music filly out of Miss Cappy by Skip Trial had been previously trained by well-known names in the game: Jason Servis, Joe Sharp and Brad Cox.
Duncan brought the filly to Winnipeg and she is now 2 for 2 taking the $25,000 La Verendrye Stakes in a quick 1:11 3/5 over Ontario bred Broadway Bonnie.
Miss Imperial is co-owned by the estate of Garyelle Stewart and she was ridden by Stanley Chadee Jr.
The win by Miss Imperial sets up an exciting battle in the Canada Day Stakes July 1 with not only Broadway Bonnie, but 4-year-old Hidden Grace, who is 9-for-9 and expected to make her first start in that race.
