The beautifully-bred MOHAYMEN, who joined the Ontario stallion ranks in 2023 for Saintsbury Farm of Christina and Jay Hayden, had his first Ontario-sired foal on February 27. A flashy colt from the winning mare Be Like Leigh, by Keen Ice, arrived at Saintsbury near Lucan, ON.
Mohaymen, by the great Tapit from Justwhistledixie by Dixie Union, won the Grade 2 Fountain of Youth Stakes (which is being run at Gulfstream on March 1) and Grade 2 Holy Bull Stakes at three and the Remsen and Nashua Stakes, both Grade 2s, for Shadwell Farm.
The stallion has been off to a fast start at stud with more than 100 starters and some 50 winners. From his first crop, the gelding WIN FOR THE MONEY won the Grade 1 Woodbine Mile last fall, a $1 million race.
Mohaymen was 11th in all of North America in 2024 of living fourth-crop sires, a list led by Gun Runner ($250,000 fee) and Practical Joke ($100,000 fee). The stallion led all Canadian-based fourth-crop sires in 2024 by progeny earnings.
