MOIRA will make her first start in Australia for new owner Yulong Investments in the $4 million (AUS) Doncaster Mile (G1) at Royal Randwick early Saturday morning (late Friday night) Toronto time.
There are 20 horses in the body of the field of the 1,600 metre race that will be the first left-handed track try for Canada’s Horse of the Year and 2024 Eclipse Award winning female turf mare. There are four emergency entrants (also eligibles).
Should the also eligibles be scratched, Moira would have post 18. She is saddle towel 10.
The Doncaster is loaded with almost a dozen Group 1 winners and the race is part of a spectacular first day of the Star Championships at the Sydny track.
Canadian Thoroughbred caught up with Charlie Duckworth, assistant and racing manager for Moira’s new trainer Chris Waller on Thursday:
” In the Doncaster there is always loads of speed on, they always say you need a good 2000-meter horse to win a Doncaster because it is always testing. It was very wet last week but has dried out well so it should be a pretty good deck.”
Zac Purton, one of Hong Kong’s leading riders, will be on board Moira, by Ghostzapper, who was sold by X-Men Racing, Madaket Stable and SF Bloodstock for $4.3 million after her Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf (G1) win at Del Mar last fall.
The DONCASTER MILE post time is about 1:30 a.m. EST early Saturday (late Friday for Western Canada) and the race is part of Star Championships day. Watch and wager on www.HPIBET.com.
