It was an exciting Saturday for fans of the newest Ontario stallion, MUCHO MACHO MAN as the stallion’s son REAL MACHO scored an impressive win in a three-year-old allowance race at Gulfstream Park. Real Macho, at 25-to-1, ran down heavily-favoured Born Noble to win the one mile race in 1:37.40 for a strong 87 Beyer Speed Figure.
The fast improving Real Macho, now with two wins in four races, is co-owned by Reeves Thoroughbred Racing, which raced Mucho Macho Man, winner of the 2013 Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) at Santa Anita. Mucho Macho Man had been standing in Kentucky where he has sired Grade 1 winner MUCHO GUSTO (Pegasus World Cup) and Grade 1 winning turfer MUCHO UNUSUAL among his 10 black-type winners from his first eight crops.
The 16-year-old stallion will stand the 2024 season at Adena Springs North in Aurora, ON. Stallion manager Tony Gattelaro said the farm is “offering a discount to multiple mares and returning Adena clients.”
A graded stakes winner from ages three through five, Mucho Macho Man was second in the Grade 2 Remsen and Nashua stakes as a juvenile. At three he was third in the Kentucky Derby (G1) to Animal Kingdom after winning the Grade 2 Risen Star Stakes at Fair Grounds.
Mucho Macho Man won the Suburban and Gulfstream Park Handicaps, both Grade 2 events, and was second in that year’s Breeders’ Cup Classic to Fort Larned. In 2013 he won the Awesome Again Stakes (G1) as his springboard to his Classic victory. Mucho Macho Man earned over $5.6 million with a record of 25 starts, nine wins, five seconds and six thirds.
Already the sire of the earners of over $19 million, Mucho Macho Man’s offspring have speed and stamina and have won stakes races on dirt, turf and all-weather surfaces.
Also on Feb. 3, the stallion’s son Le Dom Bro was second in the seven furlong Swale Stakes at Gulfstream Park.
Mucho Macho Man stands for a fee of $4,500 Canadian, stands and nurses.
