Newtown Anner Buys $110,000 Olympiad Filly Topper in Alberta

Maurice and Samantha Regan’s Newtown Anner Stud, which is based in New York, Kentucky, and Ireland, bought the $110,000 sale-topper at the CTHS Alberta yearling sale on September 18 and will race her in that province.

The dark bay filly, consigned and bred by Highfield Investment Group, is by Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1) winner Olympiad (Speightstown), whose first foals are two-year-olds this year. The sale-topper is from the unraced mare Buy Me a Rose, a daughter of Violence.

The Alberta sale, held at Westerner Park in Red Deer, saw increases across the board from one year ago. A total of 76 yearlings sold for $1.147,700, up from $1,073,600 in 2025 for an average price of $15,101, up from $14,036. The median was $11,750, which was an increase from $10,000 a year ago.

The CTHS Alberta reached Hanzly Albina, General Manager of Newtown Anner Stud Farm, in Kentucky by phone. Albina had selected the filly from the catalogue, noting Newtown’s strong belief in both her sire, Olympiad, and broodmare sire, Violence. The filly will remain in the province to race.

“The future of racing looks very promising in Alberta and we are very excited to participate,” Hanzly said.

The Regans currently race multiple stakes winner Playful in Alberta.

Doug Oberg sold the second-highest-priced yearling, a filly by Knicks Go, sire of King’s Plate and Woodbine Oaks winner Luster. The filly, from the mare Fiera Nocturna, was bought by Stetson, Inc. for $62,600 by Stetson, Inc.

The top-priced colt or gelding of the sale was also an offspring of Knicks Go. Don Danard paid $45,400 for a gelding from the mare High Fair sold by C.W. and Shirley Matier.
