Go Greeley continued his impressive juvenile campaign winning Wednesday’s $200,000 Simcoe Stakes in a dramatic photo finish over Spin the King, at Woodbine.
Owned and trained by John Ross, the dark bay son of Horse Greeley saved ground throughout the 6 1/2-furlong ‘Poly’ stake before being angled off the rail by Eurico Rosa da Silva for the stretch run, nosing out the pacesetting Spin the King in the final jump.
Go Greeley, bred in Ontario by Shannon Farms, covered the 6 1/2-furlongs in 1:16.32.
The Simcoe score marked the third stakes win of the season for the precocious colt, avenging his only loss, by a desperate nose to Spin the King, in the Clarendon Stakes. Go Greeley’s other added-money tallies came in the Colin and Vandal Stakes.
Da Silva was concerned about finding racing room when trapped inside of rivals through the turn.
Go Greeley, a $40,000 yearling purchase, banked $125,000 in victory, improving his record to 4-1-0 from five career starts.
He returned $6.20, $3.30 and $2.60, pairing with Spin the King ($4.90, $4.10) for a $26.40 (2-4) exactor. A 2-4-5 (Man o’ Bear, $3.10 to show) triactor was worth $80.10. Heart to Heart completed a $1 Superfecta (2-4-5-6) worth $76.30.
