Jacob West’s West Bloodstock paid $400,000 for an unnamed client for Ontario-bred three-year-old filly READY FOR CANDY (Twirling Candy) at Monday’s Fasig-Tipton Winter Mixed Sale in Lexington, Kentucky.

Sold by Arika Everatt-Meeuse’s Shannondoe Farm as agent, Ready for Candy made a sharp impression at the sale as a racing and/or broodmare prospect. The Mark Dodson-bred was graded stakes-placed at Woodbine as a two-year-old last year and is one of the favourites for the Woodbine Oaks and King’s Plate (see this post).

Ready for Candy, trained in 2024 by Mike DePaulo, is from the More Than Ready mare Enoree. The filly was a $62,000 Fasig-Tipton October yearling purchase by John Fox in 2023 and a $62,000 two-year-old in training purchase at the April Ocala sale in 2024 by Game Time Racing.

Ready for Candy’s dam, Enoree, bred by Gus Schickedanz, has two winning foals from two other runners. Second dam Woodsmoke, a double stakes winner, is from the immediate family of 1999 Queen’s Plate winner Woodcarver.

Meeuse told Canadian Thoroughbred that Ready for Candy would head to Florida and would return to Canada for the Oaks.

A two-year-old half sister to Ready for Candy is entered in the March Ocala two-year-old sale. The filly is by McLean’s Music.

Meeuse sold a few others at the sale including a Golden Pal – Miss Matzo short yearling filly for $80,000 to Bally Boys. The filly is a half-sister to graded stakes-winning sprinter Lucky Score and stakes winner Miss Matzoball.

Anderson Farms bought Callie’s Gift from the sale for $130,000. The stakes placed five-year-old by McLean’s Music sold as a broodmare prospect and she is a daughter of stakes winner and stakes producer Squall City.

Domenic Dilalla paid $7,000 for the Ontario-bred three-year-old filly Eddie’s Dream, a daughter of Caravaggio from Uno Strike, by Macho Uno. The unraced filly, sold by Gainesway, agent, was originally a $210,000 yearling purchase and she is from the immediate family of Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Rich Strike.
